KIMS Institute of Renal Sciences & Advanced Urology

Specialists in Kidney & Urology Care — Secunderabad's Most Comprehensive Renal Institute

The KIMS Institute of Renal Sciences & Advanced Urology in Secunderabad is one of South India's most experienced centres for kidney and urological care. With over 1,500 kidney transplants performed, a dedicated Da Vinci robotic surgery programme, and the region's first TULSA-PRO centre for incision-free prostate treatment, we bring together clinical depth and technological capability that is rarely available under one roof.

We are part of KIMS Hospitals one of India's largest healthcare networks, listed on the National Stock Exchange, with its 1,000-bed flagship hospital in Secunderabad. This means that when your kidney condition also involves the heart, endocrine system, or nervous system, every specialist you need is in the same building. You get integrated care without being referred between different hospitals.

Our institute covers the complete spectrum of kidney and urological care: nephrology, urology, dialysis, kidney transplant, uro-oncology, laser stone surgery, paediatric renal care, andrology, neuro-urology, and reconstructive urology. We are NABH and NABL accredited, recognising our commitment to clinical safety, diagnostic quality, and patient care standards.

Why Patients Trust KIMS Urology

Unmatched transplant experience
1,500+ kidney transplants — one of South India's highest volumes

Complex cases are our everyday

Our transplant team has performed over 1,500 kidney transplants including live donor, deceased donor, and ABO-incompatible (blood group mismatched) transplants that most centres in South India cannot perform. High volume means our surgeons, anaesthesiologists, and transplant coordinators have seen and managed the complications that other teams encounter only rarely. When you come to KIMS for a transplant, you benefit from that depth of experience.

Robotic and laser precision
Da Vinci Xi & X robotic systems · 100W+ Holmium and Thulium lasers

Smaller cuts, less pain, faster home

KIMS operates Da Vinci Xi and X robotic surgical systems the most advanced available for complex prostate, kidney, and bladder operations. Our laser unit uses high-power Holmium and Thulium laser technology for kidney stone surgery (RIRS, HoLEP) that fragments even the hardest stones without bleeding. These are the same technologies used at leading international medical centres. For patients, this translates directly into smaller incisions, significantly less blood loss, and discharge within 1 to 3 days for most procedures.

Complete kidney care, one campus
Dialysis · Transplant · Stones · Cancer · Nephrology — all in one institute

No referrals between hospitals

At KIMS Secunderabad, your nephrologist, urologist, transplant surgeon, dialysis team, and renal dietitian are all in the same building. If your kidney condition is complicated by diabetes, hypertension, or heart disease those specialists are also immediately accessible within the same 1,000-bed campus. You do not need to manage care across multiple hospitals. One team, one location, one continuous care plan.

Accessible and transparent
NABH accredited · Aarogyasri & EHS empanelled · All major insurance accepted

Quality care that is financially reachable

KIMS is NABH accredited the highest national quality certification for hospitals in India, covering clinical safety, infection control, and patient care standards. We accept all major private health insurance providers, and are empanelled under Aarogyasri (PMJAY) and the Employees' Health Scheme (EHS) making specialist kidney and urological care financially accessible to a wide range of patients. Our billing team will verify your insurance coverage and explain costs before any procedure.

EXCLUSIVE TO KIMS IN SOUTH INDIA

Technology & Innovation at KIMS Renal Sciences

The technology your surgeon uses directly affects your recovery. At KIMS, we invest in specific, named systems not generic 'advanced equipment' so that patients understand exactly what they are getting and why it matters.

NEW

South India’s First & Only TULSA-PRO Centre

KIMS Renal Sciences is South India's first and only centre offering TULSA-PRO (Transurethral Ultrasound Ablation) the world's most advanced incision-free treatment for prostate cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH).

TULSA-PRO delivers precisely controlled ultrasound energy directly to diseased prostate tissue through the urethra (the natural urinary passage), while simultaneously protecting the surrounding nerves, bladder, and rectum using real-time MRI guidance. The entire procedure takes place inside an MRI scanner so the surgeon can see exactly what is being treated in real time.

What this means for patients:
  • No surgical incision — treatment through natural urinary passage
  • No radiation — unlike external beam radiotherapy or brachytherapy
  • Real-time MRI guidance — precise treatment
  • Preservation of urinary and sexual function
  • Most patients return home the same day or next morning
  • Suitable for prostate cancer and BPH cases
Who is eligible?

TULSA-PRO is most suited for men with localised prostate cancer or moderate-to-severe BPH who want an effective treatment without surgery, radiation, or the side effects associated with radical prostatectomy. A consultation with our uro-oncology team will determine suitability.

Know More About TULSA-PRO
Da Vinci Robotic Surgical System
TECH: Xi and X

KIMS operates both the Da Vinci Xi and Da Vinci X robotic surgical systems the two most advanced platforms in the Da Vinci range. These systems give our surgeons a 10x magnified, three-dimensional view of the operating field and articulating robotic instruments that can perform movements with sub-millimetre precision far beyond what the human hand alone can achieve in a small surgical space. At KIMS, Da Vinci robotic surgery is used for radical prostatectomy (prostate cancer removal), partial and radical nephrectomy (kidney tumour surgery), pyeloplasty (repair of kidney-ureter junction blockage), radical cystectomy (bladder removal), and complex reconstructive urological procedures. Most patients are discharged within 1 to 3 days and return to normal activity within 2 to 3 weeks.

Advanced Laser Unit
TECH: 100W+ Holmium and Thulium Lasers

Our laser theatre is equipped with high-power Holmium and Thulium laser systems the gold standard for two of the most common urological procedures: RIRS (Retrograde Intra-Renal Surgery) for kidney stones and HoLEP (Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate) for enlarged prostate. Holmium laser energy pulverises kidney stones into fine dust that passes out naturally even the hardest calcium oxalate or cystine stones. Because the laser works through a flexible telescope passed via the natural urinary passage, no incision is required at all for RIRS. The procedure is safe even for patients on blood thinners who cannot safely undergo conventional stone surgery. For prostate enlargement, HoLEP uses laser energy to remove the entire obstructing prostate tissue achieving results equivalent to open surgery, without any incision.

Dedicated Transplant Operation Theatres
TECH: Class-100 Laminar Flow

KIMS operates dedicated Class-100 Laminar Flow Operation Theatres specifically reserved for kidney transplant surgery. Class-100 laminar flow means the air in the operating theatre is filtered to contain fewer than 100 airborne particles per cubic foot a standard that dramatically reduces the risk of surgical site infection, which is particularly critical for immunosuppressed transplant recipients. The theatres are also equipped with advanced Hemodiafiltration (HDF) machines, providing superior toxin clearance during surgery for patients with complex pre-transplant conditions.

Decades of Clinical Firsts : Our Timeline

Establishment of the Renal Sciences Department
1980s

KIMS establishes a dedicated Urology and Nephrology unit at its Secunderabad campus, one of the earliest specialist kidney and urology departments in the region. The foundation of what would become the Institute of Renal Sciences & Advanced Urology.

First Live-Donor Kidney Transplant at KIMS Secunderabad
2000s

A landmark milestone. Our transplant team performs the first live-donor kidney transplant at KIMS Secunderabad the beginning of a programme that has now completed over 1,500 successful kidney transplants, including cadaveric and ABO-incompatible cases.

Da Vinci Robotic Surgery Programme Launched
2010s

KIMS becomes an early adopter of Da Vinci robotic surgery in South India, bringing robotic-assisted prostatectomy, nephrectomy, and pyeloplasty to patients in Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The programme has since expanded to include the Xi and X systems — the most advanced in the Da Vinci range.

10,000th Urological Procedure & NABH Accreditation
2020

A landmark year. KIMS crosses the 10,000 urological procedure milestone a testament to the volume and trust built over decades. In the same year, the institute achieves full NABH accreditation, the highest national quality certification for clinical safety and patient care.

South India's First TULSA-PRO Centre
2023–2024

KIMS introduces the TULSA-PRO system to South India — the first and only centre in the region to offer this MRI-guided, incision-free prostate treatment technology. A continuation of KIMS's commitment to bringing international standard care to patients in Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

Accredited for Safety, Quality & Excellence

KIMS Renal Sciences holds three independent quality accreditations each assessed by a national authority, not self-declared. These accreditations cover every aspect of care: clinical safety, laboratory quality, and nursing standards.

NABH Accredited

Certified by the Quality Council of India, NABH ensures patient safety, infection control, surgical quality, and hospital-wide excellence through strict third-party evaluation.

NABL Accredited Labs

Ensures laboratory accuracy and reliability. Every diagnostic report meets international standards — critical for precise kidney disease monitoring and treatment decisions.

Nursing Excellence

Recognizes high standards in patient care, communication, and clinical competence — essential for dialysis, ICU, and transplant care.

Our Mission

To provide specialist kidney and urological care that is clinically excellent, honestly explained, and financially accessible so that every patient in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, regardless of their background, can get the right diagnosis and the right treatment from doctors who specialise in exactly their condition.

Our Vision

To be the most trusted and most comprehensive renal sciences institute in South India known not just for the complexity of cases we manage, but for the quality of life our patients experience after treatment. We measure success not by procedures performed, but by patients who return to full, healthy lives.

Our Values
  • Honesty — we tell patients what they need to hear, not what they want to hear

  • Precision — in diagnosis, in surgery, and in medication management

  • Integration — nephrologists, urologists, and transplant teams working as one

  • Accessibility — the same quality of care regardless of how a patient pays for it

  • Continuity — we follow patients for life, not just for the procedure
