Paediatric Renal & Urology Care
Children's kidney and urological conditions are fundamentally different from adults' in their causes, their presentation, the way they progress, and the way they should be managed. A child with recurrent urinary tract infections, protein in their urine, or a kidney abnormality found on scan needs a specialist who understands the developing kidney, age-appropriate investigation thresholds, and paediatric drug dosing — not a scaled-down version of adult care.
The KIMS Paediatric Renal and Urology team at Secunderabad provides this specialist care for children from birth through adolescence. Our paediatric nephrologists manage kidney diseases in children nephrotic syndrome, IgA nephropathy, recurrent UTIs, and childhood-onset CKD. Our paediatric urologists manage congenital and acquired urological conditions — hydronephrosis, vesicoureteral reflux (VUR), hypospadias, undescended testes, and bladder dysfunction in children. All care is provided in dedicated child-friendly spaces, with nursing staff experienced in paediatric kidney and urological care.
KIMS also performs paediatric kidney transplants a highly specialised procedure requiring specific surgical technique, immunosuppression protocol, and long-term follow-up expertise. For families whose child has been diagnosed with a kidney condition, the earlier specialist input is sought, the better the long-term outcome. Many paediatric kidney conditions are highly treatable when caught and managed early.
Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections
UTIs in children recurring 2+ times — often signalling VUR or a structural abnormality needing investigation.
Know More →Nephrotic Syndrome in children
Protein leakage and swelling — most common cause in children is Minimal Change Disease, usually steroid-responsive.
Know More →Specialist paediatric nephrologists and urologists
Children are not small adults their kidney disease behaves differently, medications are dosed differently, and the emotional impact on families is distinct. KIMS's paediatric renal team includes physicians with specific training in paediatric nephrology and paediatric urology.
Child-friendly environments
Paediatric consultations and treatments are conducted in spaces designed for children with nursing staff experienced in paediatric care. Minimising hospital anxiety for a child is part of the clinical plan, not an afterthought.
Paediatric kidney transplant capability
KIMS performs kidney transplants in children requiring specialised surgical technique, paediatric anaesthesia, and age-appropriate immunosuppression management. This is a rare capability most transplant centres do not offer paediatric transplantation.
Backed by full paediatric hospital services
KIMS Secunderabad has a comprehensive paediatrics department PICU, neonatal ICU, paediatric surgery, genetics, and paediatric endocrinology all within the same building as the paediatric renal and urology team.
See a paediatric urologist or nephrologist if your child has had two or more confirmed UTIs, if a UTI was accompanied by fever (suggesting kidney involvement), or if their GP has found an abnormality on kidney ultrasound. Recurrent UTIs in children often signal vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) urine flowing backwards from the bladder to the kidney which causes kidney scarring if not identified and managed early.
Hydronephrosis means the kidney's collecting system is swollen usually because urine is not draining properly from the kidney. It is one of the most common antenatal findings. Many cases of mild hydronephrosis resolve on their own after birth. More significant hydronephrosis requires investigation (MCU, MAG3 scan) and sometimes surgical correction (pyeloplasty). A KIMS paediatric nephrologist or urologist will review the scans and advise on the appropriate management plan.
Primary nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting) is common in children up to age 6–7 and usually resolves naturally. Persistent bedwetting after age 7, especially if the child was previously dry, warrants assessment. KIMS paediatric urologists will assess for underlying causes bladder overactivity, constipation, sleep disorders, or stress and manage with a structured programme including behavioural strategies, fluid management, and medication where appropriate.
Yes. KIMS performs kidney transplants in children with end-stage renal disease using age-specific immunosuppression protocols and surgical techniques adapted for the paediatric patient. Paediatric kidney transplantation is a highly specialised procedure; KIMS is one of the few centres in Telangana with this capability.
