About Dr. Sreedhar Reddy

Dr. Sreedhar Reddy is a consultant nephrologist at KIMS Institute of Renal Sciences & Advanced Urology, Secunderabad, with a distinctive dual qualification — DNB in Paediatrics followed by DNB in Nephrology — that gives him expertise in both paediatric and adult kidney disease. He has been at KIMS Secunderabad since August 2013.

His training pathway is unusual in the KIMS nephrology team. After completing MBBS and then DNB in Paediatrics at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health, Bangalore — one of India's premier paediatric institutions with a dedicated paediatric nephrology unit — he developed his primary subspecialty interest in paediatric kidney disease before proceeding to DNB in Nephrology at Manipal Hospital, Bangalore, consolidating both paediatric and adult nephrology training under a structured dual-board examination pathway.

This training combination is clinically significant: paediatric nephrology requires a fundamentally different approach to kidney disease — different aetiologies (congenital anomalies, hereditary nephropathies, idiopathic nephrotic syndrome, post-infectious glomerulonephritis, haemolytic uraemic syndrome), different dosing, different dialysis access strategies, and different long-term outcomes planning. Dr. Reddy's paediatric foundation enriches his adult nephrology practice with skills and perspectives that are uncommon in a general adult nephrology team.

Before joining KIMS, he built his career across Vikram Hospitals Mysore, Care Hospitals Banjara Hills, Rainbow Children's Hospital, and Narayana Hrudayalaya – Malla Reddy Hospital — a career spanning paediatric and adult nephrology across Hyderabad's top private institutions before joining the KIMS Renal Sciences team. He has also published research on the spectrum of acute renal failure in children — reflecting the paediatric nephrology focus that shapes his clinical interest.

Areas of clinical expertise

Paediatric Nephrology

Dr. Sreedhar Reddy's distinctive subspecialty — the evaluation and management of kidney diseases in children. The KIMS Renal Sciences paediatric renal centre provides specialist nephrology care for children, coordinated with the KIMS paediatrics team.

  • Idiopathic nephrotic syndrome in children — minimal change disease (the most common cause in children), FSGS, and mesangial proliferative GN. Steroid-sensitive and steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome management. Cyclosporin and mycophenolate mofetil for relapsing or steroid-dependent nephrotic syndrome.
  • Paediatric AKI — acute kidney injury in children from post-infectious glomerulonephritis, haemolytic uraemic syndrome, dehydration, sepsis, and medications. The spectrum of paediatric AKI differs substantially from adult AKI.
  • Post-infectious glomerulonephritis — management of post-streptococcal GN, the most common cause of nephritis in Indian children.
  • Haemolytic Uraemic Syndrome (HUS) — STEC-associated and atypical HUS. Plasma exchange, eculizumab for aHUS.
  • Congenital and hereditary nephropathies — Alport syndrome, Bartter syndrome, cystinosis, congenital nephrotic syndrome.
  • Vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) nephropathy — evaluation and management in children with repeated urinary tract infections.
  • Paediatric peritoneal dialysis — CAPD and CCPD for children in kidney failure — a technically demanding modality in small children.
  • Paediatric kidney transplant evaluation — pre-transplant preparation and post-transplant nephrology follow-up for paediatric recipients.

Adult Nephrology

The full spectrum of adult nephrology alongside his paediatric subspecialty — CKD management, AKI, glomerular diseases, haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and transplant physician care. His paediatric training provides additional insight into hereditary kidney conditions that present in young adults (Alport syndrome, ADPKD, Fabry disease) and into immunological mechanisms of glomerular disease.

Glomerular Diseases

Kidney biopsy-based diagnosis and management of primary and secondary glomerulonephritis — IgA nephropathy, lupus nephritis, membranous nephropathy, FSGS, and vasculitis. His paediatric nephrology background provides particular depth in the immune-mediated GN spectrum.

Dialysis Modalities

Haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis (CAPD and CCPD for both adults and children), and CRRT for AKI. His experience in paediatric PD gives him particular skill in peritoneal dialysis technique and prescription across all ages.
